WP1 is dedicated to enhancing the genetic and process engineering of C. necator, a promising microbial chassis for sustainable bioproduction. The work package addresses several fundamental challenges—from overcoming native DNA defense mechanisms to optimizing bioprocess conditions under autotrophic growth—to unlock the full potential of this bacterium in industrial biotechnology. Collectively, the efforts of the four early-stage researchers in WP1 have yielded significant advancements in strain domestication, metabolic engineering, and process design, providing a robust platform for future biotechnological applications.
